You know how people always have that saying, "Practice makes perfect"? Well, I don't know about you, but I never believed that saying. They say that with drawing, and I literally never saw a difference in my drawing. No matter how much I continued to practice, I never saw a difference in my drawings. Until now... I've been drawing for who knows how long. I would watch YouTube videos on how to draw things, and I even went as far to watch this drawing class type thing. It was actually a pretty good drawing class. Too bad I never finished it... Nor watched the 5th class. Anyways, I didn't really get much out of the class, but then that was probably because I didn't finish the class. Now that I'm in high school, this is my second art class, and I actually see some improvement. Especially from the beginning of this year to now. Maybe it's because I'm actually drawing more often than I was when I wasn't doing it for school. Maybe I didn't see very much improvement last year because there was all these different mediums apart from drawing last year, whereas we are limited to drawing because of COVID and my teacher isn't allowed to require us more than a pencil, colored pencils, and pens. So this year has been more focused on drawing than doing other medium. That has allowed me to be able to increase my skill in drawing, which I'm actually quite proud about. Here is my "pre-instruction" face that I drew August 25, 2020:
The lips are incredibly thin and just isn't shaded very well at all. Those ears are so freaking high up on the head, like, that's not even realistic at all!! The freaking features aren't even in the right spot! I don't actually mind that part since I had no idea about the who proportions thingy since I didn't learn about that until recently. I kind of like how it looks semi-similar to the original picture, I think. So, at least that's something, right? This was actually surprisingly sort of good considering the last time that I drew a face was towards the beginning of the school year last year and I was using grids to help me. This was the first time doing it with no grids and nothing to help me make it easier. Considering the human face is one of the hardest things to draw because of how all the muscles in the face are. And now, here is the drawing that I just drew, January 17, 2021:
What I'm trying to say with this post is that that saying is in fact true. You may not believe it, but practicing something that you want to get better at, will in fact help you get better, and you will get better at it. It might take two weeks or it may take two years, the fact is that you'll see improvements. But, you also have to try. You have to actually try and make yourself better and put in the work and effort into it to get to the part where you want to be. You can never be the best at something if you don't put the work and the dedication into it. You can't be the best by sitting around watching Netflix or YouTube all day. Put in that work. Well, I guess you're tired of hearing my rant on putting work into what you do. I hope this post finds you well and you take into consideration what I'm trying to say. And admire the artwork that I try really hard to put out there.
