I'm so happy to have been able to sit down with my really good friend, Elijah and interview him and his writing. It was really nice to have been able to just sit down and learn more about his process and who he is as a writer When did you begin writing, and why? My earliest memories of writing were when I was in primary school, and we'd do creative writing exercises. I remember loving them. It was just fun to me. I love telling stories, perhaps it is part of how I am formed in the image of God, who is the great storyteller. What inspired you to become a writer? Basically, I want to be able to tell awesome stories, and connect with people on an emotional level. I love people and getting to know them, and stories have always tapped into that. The written form has incredible versatility. What are some of the biggest struggles/challenges that you’ve faced as being a writer? Well, I'm terrible at motivating myself to actually sit down and write. And so I'm not super good at it. I really need to be pushed into it honestly. I am thankful that I have some great friends who help me with that. There is always the usual stuff, but actually getting stuck in and writing is always a challenge. How do you motivate yourself to continue to write? By pulling friends into my hairbrained schemes to write weird stuff and keep myself accountable. Do you have any published works? If so, what are they? Skiiiip Is there anything in your life that influences your writing? If so, what are they? I am inspired by the breadth of emotion and experience in the world, and in my own reading. I love relationships, and really personal stories, paired with grand narratives. My love of people definitely comes into it. Where do you get the ideas that you write? Anywhere at all. I have watched a lot of writing advice YouTube stuff, so that helps, but just nature, or they just come to me. Most ideas have been done before. Reading and watching things come into it. And consuming bad media is helpful, because it gives me the sense of "I could write this" which is terrifically motivating. What do your writing sessions generally look like? Me, a word document, and procrastination. I like using discord for writing sprints What do you think are the most important elements of good writing? Well, this one is easy. First, you need strong characters. Second you need consistency. Everything comes out of and supports that If you would like to check out some of Elijah's music... *le gasp* I know what you're thinking. He makes music too?? Why yes, he does, and he's quite talented at it as well. Here is his SoundCloud and Spotify to check his stuff out
