My method of studying my Bible isn't very complicated. I do highlight and write in my Bible. However, I'm not one of those people who would go all out and draw and do a whole bunch inside of it. Quite frankly, I'm wayyy too lazy to do all that. I just do enough so that it makes sense to me and helps me to better understand what I'm reading. I have a simple color guide and annotation/note taking starters to help you to get started with your own Bible studying. Highlighting ColorsHighlighting inside of your Bible really helps to differentiate the different things that I'm pointing out. The first thing that you need to think about is what kind of highlighters you should use to put inside of your Bible. I highly suggest getting a Bible highlighter. They are specifically designed to not bleed through the thin pages. Or just getting a non-bleed through highlighter might be your best bet. I highly recommend getting them from the company, Diversebee Now for the actual color coding that goes inside of your Bible. PURPLE: who God is. Names, attributes, characteristics, and actions I pretty much highlight anything that would resemble God in any way, shape, or form. Which is what says in the description XD GREEN: what should I take away from the passage? Commands, and action steps So pretty much with green, you're going to be pointing out the big things in the text. The most important stuff and just all around stuff that you need to understand from the passage. YELLOW: prayers in the Bible Any and all prayers that are said in the passage. Anytime someone is praying, that is what you will highlight in yellow. ORANGE: main ideas/repetition on phrases and words I mainly use orange for any repetition. If there are words that are constantly being repeated, it's most likely something to keep a note of. BLUE: God's promises And finally, you highlight anything that God has promised inside the text. annotationg or note taking startersNow, when I say annotation, I mean, what you're writing in your Bible. If you don't have a journaling Bible, here is what I recommend that you only write in there:
- re-writing what stood out to you - any small phrase that you want to keep in the back of your mind Some other things that you could write in your Bible (if you have the space), or in a separate notebook are: - your prayers - quotes from books or sermons - summaries - questions - and defining words that you don't know This is kind of the part of the Bible studying that you feel would help you the best. For me, I personally write down what stood out to me and what I learned from the passage. I also sometimes would write a little summary or what all that I highlighted from that day's passage. It's really up to you and how you want to dig deeper into God's word.
