Chapter One
"Evie!" I looked up to see my best friend, Abbey, staring at me. I looked around and immediately remembered that I was at school, eating lunch with my best friend. Or, at least supposed to be eating lunch, "Your boy toy is coming this way." I looked in the direction she pointed to and saw my boyfriend, Connor, coming towards us.
"Hey beautiful," he said, sitting down next to me and kissing me on the cheek in the process. I smiled and leaned in to kiss him on the lips.
"Ugh, leave the PDA for another time. Some of us are trying not to throw up from your disgusting amount of lovey doveyness."
"Oh, come on Abbs, you would do the exact same thing if you had a boyfriend." She rolled her eyes at my statement. She went back to stabbing her salad and only eating certain parts of it. I felt Connor's hand grab my chin and pulled my head to face him. He leaned in and started to kiss me. I placed my hand on his shoulder, slowly making my way down his arm. Feeling the muscles going all the way down as I went. I could feel his soft lips perfectly as he deepened the kiss. The butterflies in my stomach were going crazy just by that one action.
"Oh, for goodness' sake. You guys really can't get enough of each other, can you?" She stood up, grabbed her stuff, and left. Seems to be a common occurrence these days. Any time that I do anything with Conner, she's always leaving.
"What's up with her?" Conner asked while grabbing a pretzel and popping it in his mouth. I sighed. I want to do something to make her a little less like she's alone, but I have no idea what to do. Conner started to rub my back while he ate my pretzels one by one.
"I have no clue. It's been a common thing lately and I don't know what to do about it. I feel really bad." I smacked his hand away before he could grab another one. He wrapped his arms around my torso and nuzzled his nose into my neck.
"You'll figure it out. You've been best friends for a long time. Nothing can break that." He said against my neck. He gave me a soft kiss making it almost unbearable to think properly. I felt a hand on my shoulder it started to push Conner and I away from each other. We looked up and saw the common's monitor, Mr. Addams.
"There is a strict no PDA in the commons." He eyed our colored wristbands, "I would assume that you two would know this by now considering that you're both seniors." I sighed and scooted away from him, and he did the same.
"Since when was there ever a no PDA rule in the commons?" I asked. Conner shrugged and went back to stuffing down my bag of pretzels.
"So, what are you planning on doing tomorrow night?" I eyed him suspiciously.
"If you're planning on wanting to do something then you're going to have to talk to my parents about that. They aren't really fond of you and would probably make something up about me having to do something during the time that we're supposed to go out."
"But we haven't done anything outside of school in a while. And we haven't gone out on a date in even longer than that. I just want to be able to spend some quality time with my girlfriend." He pouted. He looked awfully cute whenever he pouted. I grabbed his face and looked him in the eyes.
"I know, and I'm really sorry that I've been so busy lately. It's not fair to you." I said, leaning in to give him a kiss, "You should come over for dinner tonight." His eyes instantly widened, and I couldn't help but laugh.
"Evelyn Hutchinson. Are you really asking me to spend a dinner with your father?" Conner and my dad didn't always get along. Not really getting along, it's more of my dad is really overprotective, as most dads are. He likes to give Conner a hard time just because he's dating his daughter.
"We've been dating for six months, and you haven't sat in the same room with the man for more than an hour. I think it's about time that you grew some balls and hang out with him."
"Babe, you've lost your mind. But I'll consider it." We both know that he's going to come over.

As Abbey walked out of her classroom, I grabbed her wrist and pulled her out from the stream of students trying to get out. "That didn't look suspicious at all." She mumbled. Since my class was in the room right next to hers, it didn't take me long to rush out of mine in order to catch her before she was gone.
"What was your problem at lunch?" Shock filled her face. Guess she didn't think I was immediately going to go to that subject.
"Nothing. Why do you ask?" I snorted.
"Oh really? Then what was that little performance that you pulled?"
"Nothing. I just had somewhere to be, that's all."
"So, you had to be somewhere right whenever Conner came by? You were fine up until he came, so what changed?" She shrugged.
"I remembered that I had to go somewhere, that's all." In that moment, it dawned on me.
"You don't like Conner, do you?" She refused to look up from the ground, "Because it's every single time that I do something with him is whenever you start acting weird or just end up leaving."
"I do like him." She mumbled. She continued to look at the ground as she spoke. Never in our years of friendship have there ever been something that she kept from me. We're THE stereotypical best friends. We told each other everything. We're always by each other's side and we hardly ever do anything separately.
"Then why are you acting like this?" She didn't say anything, "Abbs, why are you keeping this from me? We never keep anything from each other."
"It's nothing." She said and then walked away. I didn't know what to think. I'm not mad or upset with her. I'm concerned. There is something going on and it hurts that she doesn't trust me enough to tell me.
